Maps, manuscripts, newspapers, and images from Yale Library special collections will showcase key stories of Yale’s ties to slavery, abolition, and Black community-building. Topics will include how enslaved labor was used for Connecticut Hall’s construction, the defeat of a proposal in 1831 to establish America's first Black college — in New Haven — and the 18th- and 19th-century Black leaders who created essential community institutions. Note: Capacity 60 attendees per session on a first-come basis. No food or drink in library. Before entering reading room, bags, purses, packs, etc. must be stored in lockers on site; only pencils allowed (no ink pens); cellphones and cameras OK.
