Lessons from Uganda: How Global Collaborations Can Improve American Health

International health partnerships often propagate a neocolonial model, with knowledge and aid flowing in only one direction, while indigenous knowledge and practices get ignored or overwritten. Dr. Telfer, who teaches in the midwifery specialty and practices at Yale New Haven Hospital, will explain how a collaboration between Yale and institutions in Uganda points to a local model of midwifery used there that could have a significant impact in the United States — the only high-income country with a rising maternal mortality rate.
