7Y3 | Yale American Arts Class Tour

Join classmate Sarah Coffin O’Connor, who will introduce the Yale University Art Gallery’s American Arts curators, their new installations, and extraordinary collections, for a special tour and talks. The Yale Art Gallery’s strongest area is American Arts, which has grown exponentially in new areas since we were at Yale. The curators will demonstrate how Yale teaches from these collections and will explain their interdisciplinary methods. This includes a cross-departmental examination, with the Yale School of the Environment, of American paintings for what they can teach us about ecological events, such as de-forestation. Other areas include the role of Industrial design and modern craft in understanding American 20th and 21st century cultures, and a view of the extraordinary holdings of early American objects and paintings, showing how they continue to inspire new ways for students to learn. This special opportunity, well beyond a standard gallery tour, will allow you to go inside the collection and see why Yale is so preeminent in American Arts and culture today. The hour-long tour and talk is limited to 45 people - sign ups will be in Dwight Hall.
