6Y5 | Class Discussion Groups
There will be five facilitated discussion groups focused on topics related to life in our 80’s, with the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences to help inform the choices we make in the next chapter of our lives. Our hope is that classmates and partners can become resources for one another and that these conversations might continue beyond the reunion.
Care Giving & Care Receiving: Advice for Dealing with Alzheimer’s, Cancer & Other Conditions
Dan Hogan and Jane Lawson, Facilitators
Dan and Jane are life partners who have a wide range of experiences with the needs of both “Care Receivers” and “Care Givers.” The two want to inspire all in attendance to engage in a lively discussion of sharing experiences, lessons learned, and advice they would give.
Senior Housing: Whether, When and Where to Move?
Paul Weaver, Facilitator
While none of us want to leave our homes and settled life, age and health force us to consider what is the best senior housing course going forward: sticking with our present home, whether, when and where to move to senior assisted living, preparing for institutional care, or living with extended family or friends. We hope to hear from those who have already made their decisions, and from those still considering their options.
Volunteering: Good for Your Community, Good for You Too?
Bill Smith, Facilitator
We still have a depth of skill and talent to serve our communities and more time to offer that service. What organizations do we support? What impacts can we make? How do we find new volunteering opportunities and how do we get involved? How service can add to one’s self-fulfillment?
Living the Life Well-lived: Consciously Creating the Final Chapter of Your Life
Landon “Bunky” Carter, Facilitator
Brainstorming methods to be sustainably happy, fulfilled, physically healthy, and satisfied from a life well-lived. What are the practices, things you do, or things you need to complete to be able to say, "I am happy with the life I have lived."
Travel: How It Differs Over 80, and Ways to Continue Our Wanderlust
Dennis Mack, Facilitator
What limits our travel? Have our travel ambitions changed? What hacks do we do to satisfy our desire to travel with curiosity and safety.
