Class Programs
Submit by May 1 to be considered for the Friendships at Yale and Third Acts programming!
Friendships at Yale
The Yale Anthem “Bright College Years” includes the lyrics, “…Time and change shall not avail to break the friendships formed at Yale.” Apt, because for many of us the most precious gift Yale gave us has been our friendships with other Yalies, especially our fellow classmates. Will Schwalbe recently wrote a book about a friendship he formed as a senior with a classmate very different from him, Chris Maxey. Will was an out gay Classics major and Maxey a wrestler headed for the Navy SEALs. On this, our fortieth reunion, we want to celebrate our friendships, especially the unlikely ones, during a ninety-minute program moderated by Amy Wallace. We are looking for pairs of friends who want to take part in this program alongside Schwalbe and Maxey on the afternoon of Friday, May 31. The more unlikely your friendship the better! And you don’t have to have met at Yale — we are also interested in friendships among classmates that started or grew strong after graduation. If you are interested, please send a brief description of what makes your friendship unusual. Although we would love to hear from everyone, for logistical reasons we will be limiting the program to three pairs of friends. We will send out requests for participants once we have had a chance to review all submissions and will select participants to allow for a broad range of experiences and perspectives. The only prerequisite is that you and your friend are both willing to be part of the discussion in person at the Y’84 Reunion. Thanks in advance - we appreciate your willingness to share your experience with the class!
Third Acts
We are excited to share that we have received many wonderful submissions for this panel! We have closed the portal and are reviewing the submissions. We will send out requests for panelists in the coming weeks.
Class Authors and Creators Exhibit
We invite you to share your art (amateur and professional) and publications with the Class! We will provide a space to display art and publications in Branford. During Friday cocktail hour, the space will officially open for a gallery/book show style element. All artists, authors, photographers, and creators are welcome, from woodworkers, painters, sculptors, knitters, quilters and textile artists, poets, novelists, historians, magazine publishers, and craft food and beverage artisans. Please encourage your talented friends to fill out the form below by May 15.
We will provide table space and easels as needed. Please refer to the survey for guidelines and restrictions and fill in the survey by May 15 with your display item and needs.
Please note the Reunions Team is unable to promote or sell any individual works/projects. Creators may share their website to purchase items directly or authors may bring along bookplates to sign for classmates who plan to visit the Yale Bookstore. Feel free to contact Shoshana Lash at the Yale Bookstore at 203-777-8440 or SLash@bncollege.com to ask that they have your publications available for sale at a Class of '84 table during Reunion Weekend.
