7Y4| What's New at Yale

How has the scope and scale of Yale University changed over the past 50 years? Kingman Brewster said that Yale’s ambition was “to have the best of both worlds:” a pre-eminent college in a university of international distinction. In contrast to 1974, Yale College now represents less than half of total enrollment. While Yale College enrollment has grown by approximately 25%, enrollment in the growing number of graduate and professional schools has more than doubled.

Lloyd Suttle, vice provost for academic resources, will describe some of these changes in the University and talk about what is new at Yale. Lloyd His duties as vice provost have ranged widely and currently include space planning, oversight of the Department of Athletics, oversight of the University Registrar and University Financial Aid, and as the provost’s liaison to the Office of Facilities and the Office of Development. Earlier this spring, he announced his plan to retire on September 1, 2025, exactly 60 years after first stepped off the train from Alabama.
