Yale Alumni Seattle Weekend 2025

YAA-Redpath Speaker: Basie Bales Gitlin '10

 

Yalies and their guests are invited to join the Yale Club of Seattle to hear from YAA-Redpath Speaker, Basie Bales Gitlin '10, to learn more about the university's vast collections.

In this talk, Basie will explore the history of Yale’s extraordinary museums and libraries, what they did to evolve over the last century as Yale grew and changed, and how collaborations are unlocking new opportunities for students, professors, and the public to engage with the artistic, natural, and cultural treasures of Yale’s collections.

About Our Speaker

Basie Bales Gitlin '10 received a B.A. in history from Yale College and an M.Phil. in history from Pembroke College, Cambridge. He currently serves as senior director of development and external affairs for Yale University Library and Yale Collections. In this role, he bridges Yale’s cultural heritage institutions and the office of alumni affairs and development. He has worked at Yale since 2012 and serves as a fellow and advisor in Davenport College, Librarian of the Elizabethan Club, and Co-Chair of Yale’s Adrian Van Sinderen Book Collecting Prize.

An active Yale volunteer, he has interviewed prospective Yale students for the ASC, served terms on the Yale Club of New Haven and Yale Alumni Fund boards, and co-chaired his 5th and 15th Reunion Gift Committees. Outside of Yale, he has served on the Advisory Council of the American Trust for the British Library and on the boards of the Grolier Club, the New Haven Museum, and the Mory’s Association. With his father, Jay Gitlin ’71, he has co-authored an article on Elihu Yale and a book-length history of Mory’s as well as several articles and reviews focused on the history of the book.

Bulldogs of the Last Decade (BOLD) in the Seattle area, come share a drink, join in conversation and play some old school arcade games fellow recent grads. They have thirteen pinball machines, eight arcade consoles and a well stocked tabletop gaming library at our disposal. 

 

Yale Seattle Seafair Party

Pete Day '66 and Zhibing Zhang are pleased to invite you to join them for the annual Seafair Air Show on August 2nd at their home on Mercer Island.

The Blue Angels’ performance is thrilling, with a number of flyovers within 200 yards of the house.

The Blue Angels' airshow is scheduled to start at 3:35

This will be a potluck, so guests can sign up to bring main dishes, side dishes, desserts and drinks, including meats (or vegetarian options) to grill.  Pete & Bing will provide beer, wine and soft drinks.
