Welcome Class of 1980!

Dear Classmates:

Happy New Year!

This is our 45th reunion website. We will keep sharing important updates on our website and through email. When registration opens in early spring, you can return to this page to view the weekend schedule and register!

In the meantime, below are our important deadlines and events for your consideration. We also shared this message via email. If you did not receive this message via email, please log into the Yale Alumni Directory to update your contact information and manage your communication preferences. You may also email reunions@yale.edu for assistance with updating your information.

Important Deadlines/Timing Considerations for Your Planning:

  • Reunion hotel blocks will open at noon Eastern Time on Wednesday, January 29th. Links to access booking will not be available until that day/time. Visit the reunion hotel page to learn more.
  • On-campus housing is available and can be booked when you register for reunion in early spring.

Important Event Items for Your Consideration:

  • Creators Exhibit
    • We’d like to have a space at reunion to display (not sell!) your work – if you’ve got a book, article, architectural model, product, sculpture, painting, or some other product of your endeavors – whether your full time pursuit, hobby, or second (or third) career, we’d like to display it for other classmates to see (and ask you about). So that we may plan accordingly, please fill out this form and let us know what you will be bringing so we can plan the display logistics accordingly.
  • Class Programs
    • We're going to experiment with something new (for us) at the reunion (we actually planned to do this for the 40th but, alas. . . .). We're thinking of it as the mutant love child of a TED talk and The Moth (work with me on this). We'd like to invite any classmates who are so inclined to speak for about 5-7 minutes on a topic of interest to them to share with other attendees (Consider this your invitation, and an invitation to any of your friends/roommates/teammates, etc. who might be interested as well -- please let them know).
    • It can be kind of professional, personal, philosophical, topical, or wonky (kind of TED talk-ish) or it could be something about your life, interests, travel, an experience, whatever (kind of Moth-ish). Or both. Or neither. (See? Lots of options). We had some really interesting early volunteers 5 years ago, so we are hoping they and others will resurface this time around.
    • It's not a talent show, and we're hoping it can be kind of low-tech (which gives us more flexibility in terms of timing and location). We hope it will stimulate conversation and perhaps allow each of us to learn something about someone else or something else in a fairly relaxed setting.
    • Our only ground rule so far is that we'd like to keep politics out of it (unless it's about your stint in government). If you are interested, or you have a suggestion for someone else, please drop me (David) an email with a couple of sentences about your proposed topic. Thanks and don't be shy.
  • Attendance Building
    • Finally, we would love your help to build attendance – if you would be willing to make some calls or send some emails to classmates, fellow residential college residents, teammates, other members of the cast, whatever, we’d love your help. Please let us know how you’d like to help. We can assure you that we can tailor this to the amount of time you’re willing to devote to the effort, and thanks in advance for considering our request.

We’re looking forward to seeing you in New Haven soon! In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

Regards,

Your 45th Reunion Chairs
